Blurred Lines

A personal Film

Watch it!

Inspiration

I grew up playing video games my whole life, but there is one game that will forever have my heart, The Last of Us. This game truly makes me feel like I'm on an adventure, I love that feeling and wanted to try and encapsulate it into a personal film.

Technical Aspect

This film was entirely shot on iPhone. For me this was one of my biggest challenges, I didn't have a tripod or anything it was all handheld. I decided to shoot it in completely natural light to show the rawness of the character and video game she was transported in. I scouted for a couple of days and found train tracks which added to the apocalyptic mis en sen of the film. The makeup, costumes, and hair design was to imitate the main character, Ellie Williams. The sound design was challenging as well, half of it was foley, and the other half were snippets I recorded from the video game itself.

Party 4 u

A sound design film

Watch it!

Inspiration

This film was inspired by Charlie XCX's song, "Party 4 u". I often listen to this song while driving to school and imagined a crowded party and a lost lover. One of the worst feelings is feeling alone in a room full of people. I wanted to capture how that felt through sound, and lighting in this film. This was created to help others understand the feeling of loneliness.

Technical Aspect

the film was shot on a Black Magic camera. However, one of the biggest challenges was the dolly tracks I had to build in order to get the perfect shot of isolationism. I wanted a dolly out shot full of people to enrapture this idea of loneliness and discomfort in the teenage world. The film production design was also a heavy aspect in this film, I had to set up an entire party including a DJ system, food and drinks, and finally big LED lights. This film is completely foley sound design, and all music is dedicated to Charlie XCX. Perhaps the hardest part of this film was editing. It was my first time learning sound design and how to furfill the needs of it, along with matching the foley sounds to the clips of the film.

What Does Art Mean to Me?

A short reflective personal film

Watch it!

Inspiration

This was a reflective film on myself, who I am as a person and my views on the world. I think it's important to know who you are and how to express it, for me I realized that was through a variety of art forms. I wanted to create something to fully express myself to others.

Technical Aspect

This film was filmed on a canon camera, I decided to film on a 35 Mm lens to show the length of a human eye, to incorporate a human feel to this short film. I filmed it during my favorite weather patterns and had to wait 4 days in order to capture the perfect sky I had envisioned while writing this.

A Symbol of Approval

A Dogma 95 style film

Watch it!

Inspiration

Though I did not Direct this film, the director and I worked close together to create a raw human experience by choosing to film this in a dogma 95 style. We wanted to display the idea of mental abuse, and the different ways people handle it. We did this through food and the symbolism of approval through food that can feed a relationship to grow or get better.

Technical Aspect

The hardest part about this film was to shoot it all handheld. I was the director if picture in this project and decided to shoot on the red Dragon camera to give the film a homier tone to the film. Due to the Dogma 95 rules I decided to make drapes that hung in the kitchen windows to give softer effect to the picture. Overall, I tried my best to display emotion through camera angles, movement and strong set design.

Abuelito

A personal documentary

Watch it!

Inspiration

I decided to make this film because it was my grandpas 70th birthday and I wanted to do something special for him. He started a new life for our family when he moved from Mexico to the US and decided to take on the world as an immigrant. He worked hard and it payed off, he is the reason I am here.

Technical Aspect

This was one of my favorite videos to make. I had a blast doing this project, I got to see my family, interview them, and dig up old photos of my grandpa. The interviews were shot on iPhone, and the entire thing was edited in one night and took about 8 hours to edit. I had to find songs that matched my grandpa and try to include things that would make my family, laugh, cry, and love.

"Get Out" Film Analysis

Slide through it!

Why "Get out?"

"Get Out" is one of my favorite films due to the genius works of Jordan Peel. I decided to do this movie in particular my section was cinematography, because I think it's the most important aspect of the "Sunken Place" in this film. It displays the Struggles black people encounter even in today's society, its displayed artistically through the camera angles, movement, and overall look of the picture. The intense lighting contrast and overall theme and message so heavily displays through the camera and that's why I think this film is admirable on a film making perspective.
